Among WBA's largest recent projects is St. Johns Town Center, located in Jacksonville, Fla. and a collaboration of Simon Property Group and Ben Carter Properties. St. Johns Town Center is a 1.5-million-square-foot combination of a regional power center and a lifestyle component featuring upscale tenants such as Lucky Brand, Apple, Williams-Sonoma, Maggiano's Little Italy, P.F. Chang's and Dillard's. The lifestyle center was designed in two architectural styles to emulate the traditional designs found throughout northeast Florida. The northern portion of the project is referred to as the “Jacksonville” district, with architectural styles mimicking various portions of Jacksonville. The southern portion is referred to as the “St. Augustine” district. The major architectural theme there emulates the Spanish architecture of the nation's oldest city, which is located just south of Jacksonville.
Partnering with Thomas Enterprises, another giant of the retail development industry, Wakefield Beasley continues to design for The Rim, a 2.5 million-square-foot mixed-use project development located in San Antonio.
The Rim is an excellent example of today's mixed-use designs, consisting of a ring of big-box tenants on the outer perimeter of the site and a centrally located lifestyle village comprised of smaller retail, office and residential uses, as well as an 180-room hotel. Several of the retail spaces are open with design progressing on the remaining retail and residential portions.
