Macy's Inc. across the country re-branded many department stores from both the Federated and May families simply as "Macy's" in attempt to create a true, national brand. Nowhere has that task been tougher than in Chicago where residents have revolted against the transformation of the Marshall Field's flagship. Now, Macy's is throwing its hands up with its efforts to win over former Field's customers, and instead will focus its efforts on winning over new customers.
The store itself will undergo yet another change as well. After bringing in FAO Schwartz to operate a store-within-a-store, Macy's is now looking to turn over a 20,000 square foot chunk of the property to a grocer.
