Walmart To Fill Failed Big Box at Mall

WOODLAND, CA—Walmart has agreed to take over a former Mervyn’s department store here at County Fair Fashion Mall.

The new Walmart Neighborhood Market will occupy the now-vacant, 62,000-sq.-ft. building at 1250 E. Gibson Road. The company has started construction and expects to open soon.

Scott Sterlekar, director of real estate and leasing for Primero Management, said the store will be a great addition to the mall. “This new Walmart will allow for improvement in the retail climate in the Woodland area and provide a non-competitive synergy with other mall tenants. With proximity of the various neighborhoods surrounding the mall, in addition to the new residential construction next door, this will be a great fit.”

The mall is anchored by JCPenney, Burlington Coat Factory and Cinemark theaters. Negotiations are now underway for another new anchor to replace the 57,000-sq.-ft. former Gottschalk’s. Primero Management manages the property.
