Sustainability has been a topic of interest in the real estate space for over 20 years, effectively starting with the founding of the U.S. Green Building Council and the EPA’s Green Lights program, the precursor to Energy Star. Admittedly, back then, most of the dialogue was between architects and the few visionary real estate practitioners who “got it” when it came to sustainability. The rest of us can be forgiven for having had that deer-in-the-headlights look about us.
