Owners of Westin Maui Resort Seek to Invest $3B in Hotels in Hawaii, Elsewhere

The partnership is looking for value-add properties in Hawaii, California, Mexico and Japan.

Honolulu-based Trinity Investments LLC and funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management LP plan to invest up to $3 billion in “high-quality, value-added hotel properties" in Hawaii, California, Mexico and Japan under a newly formed joint venture that seeks to compete with global institutional investors. The two firms have already teamed up this year, on the $317 million acquisition of the long-term leasehold interest in The Westin Maui Resort & Spa from an affiliate of Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
