Tehachapi Breaks Ground on $56M Replacement Hospital

TEHACHAPI, CA—The Tehachapi Health Care District Hospital is breaking ground on a $56 million new hospital here, replacing a current facility about two miles away.

The district hired Bernards and Colombo Construction Co. as joint venture partners to provide construction management services. The 25-bed, 78,979-sq.-ft. facility will replace the existing hospital, which does not meet the current California Seismic Safety Standards. Construction will begin this week and the project is slated for completion in 2015.

The hospital is designated as a critical-access rural facility, offering acute care and outpatient services and operates rural clinics in Tehachapi and Mojave. It is the only hospital within a 50-mile radius. “This new state-of the-art facility will provide a safe, atheistically pleasing environment for patients, healthcare professionals and visitors and serve this community well for many years to come,” said Greg Simons, executive vice president for Bernards, in a statement.
