About ASHA

Created by the National Multi Housing Council in 1991 and based in Washington, D.C., the American Seniors Housing Association (ASHA) represents the interests of the larger and most prominent firms in the country participating in the seniors housing industry. ASHA's members are engaged in all aspects of the development and operation of housing for seniors, including the construction, finance and management of such properties.

ASHA has played an integral role in seniors housing advocacy in areas related to fair housing, tax policy, building codes, the Americans with Disabilities Act, long-term care policy, and state regulations impacting seniors housing. ASHA's founders established the Association as the leading voice for companies interested in shaping the legislative and regulatory agenda of the professionally owned and managed seniors housing industry.

In addition to exercising leadership on matters related to seniors housing advocacy, ASHA is committed to filling voids in seniors housing-related information. ASHA has published a wide variety of definitive monographs and reports. Topics include seniors housing finance trends and prospects; fair housing advertising; seniors housing success stories; seniors housing acquisitions and construction; seniors housing's role in caring for the elderly; and implications of long-term care policy on seniors housing building codes, tax policy and other pertinent issues.

ASHA's quarterly meetings provide a vital forum for industry leaders to discuss strategic issues affecting congregate, assisted living, and continuing care retirement communities. Panels and roundtable discussions probe a litany of concerns and opportunities facing seniors housing businesses. Prominent government officials routinely appear at ASHA's meetings to provide updates on legislative and regulatory activities of interest to seniors housing organizations.

For those readers interested in joining the seniors housing industry's leadership, ASHA welcomes inquiries to its Washington offices at 202/974-2300, or you can visit the ASHA/NMHC web site at "http://www.nmhc.org".
