Keyshawn John-son, who's still active in the NFL as a wide receiver, has been involved in developing at least two shopping centers — Santa Barbara Plaza and Chesterfield Square.

Former Cowboy great Roger Staubach got the trend going, starting his tenant rep firm in 1977. Today Staubach employs 1,200 people in 58 offices throughout the U.S.

Magic Johnson has made a big splash through partnerships with Loews, Starbucks, T.G.I. Fridays, Washington Mutual and Canyon-Johnson Urban Funds.

All-team leading rusher Emmitt Smith jumped into retail last May, forming a joint venture with Staubach affiliate Cypress Equities, called Smith/Cypress Partners.
