Retail Center Opens Near Pearl Harbor

Robertson Properties Group opened Pearl City Gateway, a 150,000-square-foot community retail center in Pearl City, Oahu, Hawaii.

Robertson Properties Group opened Pearl City Gateway, a 150,000-square-foot community retail center in Pearl City, Oahu, Hawaii. Tenants at the center include Babies ‘R’ Us, Longs, Petco, David’s Bridal, Roger Dunn Golf Shops, Cherry on Top, Ramen Ya, McDonald’s, Aloha White Hana Nail Salon & Spa and Caesars Cleaners.

The $75 million center sits on a 13.5-acre site just minutes away from Pearl Harbor. The site used to house a U.S. Navy facility.

“Pearl City Gateway has been embraced as a welcome addition to the community. With retailers that are new to Hawaii, such as Babies ‘R’ Us and David’s Bridal, and only the second Petco location, it also is a destination for families beyond the immediate neighborhood,” said Jeff Koblentz, chief operating officer of Robertson Properties Group, in a statement.

Dollar Tree Signs Six New Leases in Southern California

Dollar Tree Stores Inc. has signed six leases in Southern California. The new locations include a 9,166-square-foot store at Embassy Plaza in North Hollywood; a 9,000-square-foot store at Corona Towne Center in Corona; a 12,300-square-foot store at Doheny Village Center in Capistrano Beach; an 11,360-square-foot store at Lancaster Village in Lancaster; and a 15,000-square-foot store in Ontario. All leases feature five-year terms.

Scott Burns, senior vice president with Wilson Commercial Real Estate, represented Dollar Tree in every transaction, sometimes in partnership with Lea Clay Park, of Studley Retail Services.

Lowe Enterprises, JBG to Develop Mixed-Use Center in Washington D.C.

Lowe Enterprises and the JBG Cos. formed a joint venture to develop a nine-acre mixed-use project in Northeast Washington D.C. The development is a public/private venture comprised of land previously acquired by Lowe Enterprises and a parcel owned by the District of Columbia and the D.C. Department of Transportation near the Fort Totten metro station.

Marketplace Development to Build Retail Center in West Memphis

Marketplace Development LLC will build the Marketplace at West Memphis, a 29,340-square-foot retail center in West Memphis, Ark. Tenants at the center will include AT & T Wireless, GameStop, Shoe Show, Dot’s Fashions, Dragon China, Regal Nails and Mi Pueblo Mexican Restaurants. The center is scheduled to open in the spring of 2011. First Tennessee Bank provided the financing for the project.

Former Hilco Exec Joins CB Richard Ellis Group

CB Richard Ellis Group Inc. appointed Nina Kampler as senior managing director in its New York tri-state retail services group and head of its urban retail group in the Americas. In her new position, Kampler will work with CBRE’s tri-state area retail professionals to strengthen the firm’s retail real estate capabilities. Previously, Kampler served as executive vice president of strategic retail and corporate solutions with Hilco Real Estate. She has more than 25 years of experience in corporate retail.

Ontario Mills Signs New Deals

Ontario Mills, an outlet center in Ontario, Calif. signed three new leases for 2011.

Forever 21 will more than quadruple its space at the center, from 13,000 square feet to 54,000 square feet. As part of the expansion, the retailer will move to Neighborhood 4 of Ontario Mills.

Burlington Coat Factory will expand from 80,000 square feet to 112,000 square feet in its current location.

Sports Authority will open a 50,000-square-foot new store in Neighborhood 3.

The deals came together partly as a result of an agreement between the City of Ontario Redevelopment Agency and The Mills, a Simon company that owns Ontario Mills.

As part of the center’s growth, The Mills will also create additional entrances to the center, increase the number of available parking spaces and update information signs and decorative landscaping.

Spirit Halloween Completes Its Pop-Up Program

Spirit Halloween leased eight pop-up stores in New York City totaling more than 90,000 square feet. Alexander Hill, of Winick Realty Group LLC, represented Spirit in the transactions.

Overall, Spirit Halloween leased more than 879 pop-up stores in the U.S. and Canada for the 2010 Halloween season.

Other Notable News

Matanky Realty Group has been appointed as the exclusive leasing and sales agent for The Pointe, a 40,000-square-foot community retail center in Crown Point, Ind. The center is currently 80 percent leased.

Perkowitz+Ruth Architects (P+R) promoted nine of its employees. Tarek Anan and Michael Salmon became associate principals. Both Anan and Salmon have more than 20 years of tenure with the firm and have worked with some of P+R’s largest retail clients.

Keith Mericle, David Sabunas and Sean Unsell were appointed as senior associates. Gil Alarcon, Don Fukumoto and Eileen Hughes became associates and Lisa Rugnetta was named director of architectural contracts administration.

Cushman & Wakefield hired Jason Donald and Philip Glassman as directors in its Tampa, Fla. retail services group. Prior to joining Cushman & Wakefield, Donald served as managing partner with Sperry Van Ness, while Glassman was director of sales and marketing with Security Land Holding Co.
