Youth Org Hetrick-Martin Institute Renews, Expands NYC HQ Location

NEW YORK—Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI), a provider of social support and programming to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth, has renewed and expanded its headquarters lease at 740 Broadway and 2-10 Astor Place. HMI serves as the host agency for the Harvey Milk High School, which is located at 2-10 Astor Place.

Cushman & Wakefield’s Carri Lyon, Tom Kaufman and Rory Murphy represented HMI in the transaction. Jeffrey Gural, Brian Steinwurtzel and Donna Vogel of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank represented the landlord.

Founded in 1979, HMI signed a long-term renewal and expansion and will occupy a total of 31,721 sq. ft. The organization will continue to occupy part of the 3rd floor at 2-10 Astor Place and the entire 3rd floor at 740 Broadway and will expand on the entire 8th floor.

The Hetrick-Martin Institute is home of the Harvey Milk High School, a four-year, fully accredited, inclusive voluntary public high school, named in honor of gay-rights champion and San Francisco politician Harvey Milk.

“Through our programs and services we are able to serve nearly 2,500 youth who have been bullied out of their schools or kicked out of their homes,” said Thomas Krever, Executive Director of HMI. “We are thrilled that HMI and the Harvey Milk High School will continue operating out of this space for another ten years.”
