Consumers took advantage of retailers’ pre- and post-holiday promotions as same store sales for December increased 2.1% compared with the same period last year, according to data compiled by TeleCheck services.
According to the company, the top five shopping days, in descending order were:
1. Saturday, Dec. 22
2. Friday, the day after Thanksgiving
3. Saturday, Dec. 15
4. Friday, Dec. 21
5. Thursday, Dec. 20
The TeleCheck Retail Index is based on a year-over-year, same-store comparison of the dollar volume of checks written by consumers in more than 27,000 of TeleCheck’s 272,000 subscribing locations, including a broad cross-section of national retailers.
