Hardin Construction to build 'green' office building

Employing sustainable building techniques or "green construction," Atlanta-based contractors Hardin Construction and Humphries and Co. will build a new office for the Arthur M. Blank Family Office in Atlanta. The facility will house the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation and AMB Group. The 40,000 sq. ft. building will include private office space, a public gathering place, gardens and a private residential suite.

The sustainable building design techniques will improve energy efficiency, control water use, recycle construction waste materials and reduce indoor air pollutants in order to limit the building’s negative impact on the environment and its occupants. Hardin currently is working on several other sustainable projects as well, including the Capital One campus in Richmond, Va., and Georgia Tech’s Technology Square in Atlanta. The company employs the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) as a framework to product these environmentally friendly buildings.

"Being awarded a project such as the Arthur M. Blank Family Office building is very rewarding," says Jeff George, senior vice president at Hardin Construction and a board member of Southface Energy Institute in Atlanta. "Being able to employ sustainable construction techniques that support the Foundation’s environmental initiatives makes it even more so."
