PRESS RELEASE: WX Announces November 21, 2013 Woman of the Year Gala Honoring Marjorie Tsang

New York—WX New York Women Executives in Real Estate (WX) is pleased to announce that its 2013 Annual Woman of the Year Gala will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the University Club. This year’s Woman of the Year honoree is Marjorie Tsang of the New York State Common Retirement Fund, a long-time member of the association who previously served on the WX board of directors and was instrumental in the development of the WX scholarship initiative.

The WX Woman of the Year Gala recognizes a member of the WX community who has made significant contributions toward advancing the mission of WX and who is a role model for women in the New York real estate industry. Marjorie Tsang has more than 25 years of global real estate experience, specializing in pension fund investments, joint ventures, structured investment vehicles and emerging manager platforms. She has been involved in partnerships with some of the industry’s most distinguished REITs and real estate operators including Kimco, General Growth, Boston Properties, Hines, Avalon Bay, Taconic Investment Partners, Public Storage, Liberty Property Trust and ProLogis.

Marjorie was named as one of the ten most influential women in private real estate investing by PERE. Marjorie joined the New York Common Retirement Fund in 1993 and served as Assistant Comptroller for Real Estate Investments from 1999-2011. Of her numerous investment initiatives, she is most enthusiastic about the launch of the Real Estate Emerging Manager Joint Venture Program in partnership with Artemis Real Estate Partners. The platform’s goal is to invest with more newly-established owners, developers and entrepreneurs, including women and minority-owned businesses. She was asked to serve as the pension fund's Interim Chief Investment Officer from September 2011 to August 2012. She continues her investment duties for the Fund as the Director of Strategic Research and Solutions covering capital markets, long term and tactical investment strategies and the development of new asset classes such as Real Assets.

Marjorie was an early member of WX and served the WX Board of Directors from 2002-2005. During her tenure on the board, she helped start the WX scholarship initiative at schools including Baruch College, Columbia University and New York University. To date, the WX scholarship initiative, which is now governed by the WX Charitable Fund, has provided over $750,000 in scholarships to up-and-coming women in real estate.

Marjorie was also instrumental in developing WX’s relationship with the Young Women’s Leadership School in East Harlem and the funding for scholarship recipients to attend the annual WX Gala. She strongly believes in the value of providing mentorship opportunities to young women in real estate and plays an active role in career panels, educational programming and professional networking organizations.
