Vintage Real Estate broke ground on the $17 million renovation and expansion project at The Village at Nellie Gail Ranch, a retail center in Laguna Hills, Calif.
The expansion will include the addition of a 21,000-sq.-ft. Fresh Market to the property. The renovation will include new facades and signage, refreshed landscaping and the addition of outdoor gathering spots. Vintage expects to complete the project in the first quarter of 2014.
In an unrelated transaction, Vintage signed a lease with Hobby Lobby for a 61,000-sq.-ft. store at Heritage Mall in Albany, Ore. The retailer plans to open its new location in the first quarter of 2014.

Saks, Nike Sign Leases at Mississippi Outlet Center
Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH signed a 20,000-sq.-ft. lease and Nike Factory Store a 12,000-sq.-ft. lease with Spectrum Capital for stores at The Outlets of Bloomfield in Pearl, Miss. The 325,000-sq.-ft. outlet center is scheduled to open in November 2013.
ShopRite to be Retail Anchor for Newark’s Springfield Avenue Project
Wakefern Food Corp. signed a lease with Tucker Development Corp. for a 67,000-sq.-ft. ShopRite store at Springfield Avenue Marketplace, an upcoming retail/residential project in Newark, N.J. Tucker plans to break ground on the development in the fall of 2013.

Paragon Real Estate broke ground on a 12,500-sq.-ft. Trader Joe’s store in Libertyville, Ill. The firm is also building an 8,100-sq.-ft. multi-tenant retail property on the other end of its three-acre development parcel.
Newmark Grubb Knight Frank hired Chris Malherbe and Robert Pinon to join its retail occupier services group. Malherbe and Pinon will be responsible for providing strategic consulting, transaction and asset management, project management, lease administration and facilities maintenance services for retailers. Previously, Malherbe served as senior managing director with Jones Lang LaSalle. Pinon was a retail broker and director of real estate for corporate accounts with CBRE.
SRS Real Estate Partners hired Katie Carlisle as an associate in its Austin, Texas office. In her new position, Carlisle will be actively involved in project leasing and tenant representation with a focus on new development. Prior to joining SRS, she worked at The Retail Connection.
FRCH Design Worldwide added two new members to its Cincinnati department store studio, including Liz Baverman as interior designer and Stephanie Hrstman as executive studio administrator. Baverman is a recent graduate of the University of Cincinnati’s Design, Architecture, Art and Planning program. Horstman previously worked as a freelancer with FRCH.
