Pugh: Lidl Wants to Bring as Many as Five Supermarkets to Baltimore

After talking to the chain's representatives, Pugh is confident the company is ready to make a major investment in the city.

Mayor Catherine Pugh said that German grocer Lidl is prepared to open as many as five grocery stores in the city over the next few years. Executives from the discount chain, which has said it wants to open about 100 stores in the U.S., met with city officials at the International Council of Shopping Centers annual RECon convention in Las Vegas earlier this month. Pugh said after talking to Lidl representatives, she is confident that the company is ready to make a major investment in Baltimore.
