Service amenities are an important factor for 15 percent of respondents.

Size of the Community

Size of the apartment community plays a pivotal role for 16 percent of respondents.

Cable or Wi-Fi Included

Cable or Wi-Fi included in the apartment package is key for 17 percent of respondents. Village Green researchers found that 20 percent of millennials check if a building offers cable or Wi-Fi before making a leasing decision.

Ability to Pay Rent and Submit Maintenance Request Online

An online portal allowing residents to pay rent and submit maintenance requests online influences the decision for 18 percent of respondents.

Friendly Onsite Staff

Nineteen percent of survey respondents indicated they are invested in having a friendly on-site staff.

Facility Amenities

Facility amenities, including fully-equipped gyms, resort-style pools, business centers and lounge areas, are important to 21 percent of respondents.

Property Amenities

Property amenities, or amenities that come with individual apartment units, such as patios, are instrumental for 28 percent of survey respondents.

Community Environment

The overall community environment is a top concern for 49 percent of respondents. The percentage is even higher in the Phoenix metro, where 65 percent of respondents place a high importance on that factor.

Location

Eight-one percent of respondents care about the building’s location. Respondents in the Minneapolis metro chose location before rent as their top decision-making factor.

Rent

Rent, unsurprisingly, was the number one factor for 85 percent of survey respondents. It was also the top factor for millennials in particular.
