Macy's/Toys'R'Us Create Power Play

Macy's and Toys'R'Us just announced that the toy retailer will start operating its Express holiday stores within 24 Macy's locations from mid-October through mid-January. The stores will average approximately 1,500 sq. ft. and will be spread out at Macy's' across California, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York and a few other states.

According to a press release Macy's issued this morning:

“Macy’s is a premier holiday shopping destination, and many of our customers have toys on their gift-giving lists. By partnering with Toys“R”Us, the authority in the toy space, we can offer a comprehensive toy assortment and one-stop shopping in this largest gift-giving time of the year,” said Jeff Gennette, Macy’s chief merchandising officer.

Toys'R'Us has been operating holiday Express pop-ups in mall locations since 2010, but last fall it had to scale down the number of Express openings, possibly because space was getting too expensive to justify return on investment.
