250-Key LEGOLAND Hotel and Resort Opens

CARLSBAD, CA—Construction has completed on the 250-key LEGOLAND Hotel and LEGOLAND California Resort. R.D. Olson Construction built the facility, which the company calls its “most intriguing hotel project.”

The LEGOLAND hotel and resort is only the third to be built in the world and the first to be constructed in North America. Other facilities are located in Denmark and the United Kingdom.

“This has been without question one of the most interesting hotel construction projects we have completed,” said Ian Gardiner, executive vice president at R.D. Olson Construction, in a statement. “At the same time, it is impossible to not get caught up in the excitement of building such an entertaining and creative project.”

The construction took 15 months to complete for the U.K.-based Merlin Entertainments Group. The hotel has 250 themed rooms. Guests will stay either in a pirate- adventure- or kingdom-themed room. Each room includes a kid’s alcove with bunk beds and a trundle bed as well as a separate sleeping area for adults. Amenities include a restaurant, lounge, event space, and heated outdoor pool. The three-story hotel contains more than 3,500 LEGO models and each element of the hotel includes custom LEGO millwork, wall coverings, lighting artwork, etc... The resort includes 60 rides, shows and attractions, such as LEGO Star Wars Miniland Model Display, Pirate Reef and LEGO Legends of Chima 4-D movie.

“Our expertise in hotel construction over the past 30 plus years allows us to deliver projects like the LEGOLAND Hotel, with maximum efficiency through every phase of construction,” said Bob Olson, CEO and founder of R.D. Olson Construction.
