Field's Fate

Months after announcing it would phase out the Marshall Field's name in a bid to recast Macy's as a national brand, Federated Department Stores Inc. outlined its plans for Field's Chicago landmark that it said would “honor and further establish the iconic flagship.”

This fall, the store will be designated as “Macy's at State Street” as a nod to its historic location. Federated chairman, president and CEO Terry Lundgren says Federated will maintain Field's traditions, such as animated holiday window displays and the 45-foot-tall Great Tree in the Walnut Room.

Frango candies — long an institution at the store — will remain and Macy's will add a Frango viewing kitchen to the store's seventh floor.
