Retired Retail Executive Dies

Charles Edward "Chuck" Bingham, former director of leasing for Memphis, Tenn.-based Belz Enterprises, died Feb. 8 at his home. Bingham was 76.

Bingham was a leader in the outlet mall industry. Before joining Belz Enterprises, Bingham, a native of Birmingham, Ala., attended Birmingham Southern College. After college he held a series of management positions with retail companies in both West Point, Ga. and Atlanta before joining West Point Pepperell of West Point in 1971 as manager of the company's retail stores. He was later promoted to director of retail stores and in 1987 became vice president of operations and development. He retired from the company in 1989, prior to joining Belz Enterprises. He retired from Belz in 1994.

Always active in the community, Bingham was a former City of West Point councilman and a member of the city's Lions Club. He is survived by his wife, Eloise, and two daughters and sons-in-law.

Trammell Crow Co. Jim Stokas has been named senior vice president of Dallas-based Trammell Crow Co.'s Southfield, Mich., office. As retail broker, his responsibilities will continue to include specializing in site selection and disposition services for national retailers. Formerly a senior vice president with the Southfield office of Los Angeles-based CB Richard Ellis, Stokas has been one of the top-performing brokers for the Michigan-area market, completing more than $160 million in transactions since 1991.

Vineland Construction Co. Gloria Mercado has been appointed director of retail property for Vineland, N.J.-based Vineland Construction Co., a retail and industrial development and property management firm that is a subsidiary of the national transportation and logistics corporation, NFI Industries. In her new role, Mercado will oversee management and marketing of Vineland's portfolio of retail properties. Previously, Mercado served as leasing representative for Kranzco Realty Trust in Conshohocken, Pa.

Famous Footwear Christopher C. Kiehler has joined the Lake Forest, Calif., office of Madison, Wis.-based Famous Footwear as director of real estate. The company is a member of St. Louis-based Brown Group Inc. In his new position, Kiehler will be responsible for managing all Famous Footwear real estate efforts on the West Coast. Most recently, Kiehler served as director of leasing for Pacific Retail Trust in Irvine, Calif.

Madison Marquette Ronald R. Brunswig has been named vice president and director of construction for Cincinnati-based Madison Marquette. Brunswig assumes responsibility for directing all domestic development construction activities. Prior to joining Madison Marquette, Brunswig provided development consulting services for Urban International's $800 million Core Pacific City regional retail center in Taipei, Taiwan. Before that, he had served as senior vice president of development for Chicago-based Urban Retail Properties Co

Entertainment Properties Trust David M. Brain has been named COO at Kansas City, Mo.-based Entertainment Properties Trust (EPR), in addition to his existing role as CFO of the company. Brain has been with EPR since its initial public offering in November 1997. Prior to joining EPR, he served as senior vice president in the investment banking and corporate finance department of Kansas City-based George K. Baum & Co.

Benenson Capital Co. James E. Stifel has been named chief investment officer at The Benenson Capital Co. in New York. In his new post and as a member of the company's executive management and investment committee, Stifel plays a major role in developing and implementing investment strategies and overseeing the investment team. Previously, Stifel served as managing director for acquisitions with the firm, which he joined in 1987. Prior to joining Benenson Capital, Stifel spent 15 years at General Electric Capital.

Millman Search Group Lori Marler Kleppin has joined Millman Search Group, a Baltimore-based executive recruitment firm, as director of the company's shopping center division. In the position, she will consult in the areas of leasing, property management, property and corporate marketing, construction and asset management. Prior to joining Millman, Kleppin held marketing and management positions with several shopping center developers including Compass Retail, Urban Retail Properties and Allegiance Realty Co.

Transwestern Property Co. Dixon Rich has been named executive vice president and leader of Southwest development activities for Dallas-based Transwestern Property Co. Rich will work with the company's development partners in Dallas, Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Denver and New Orleans, and will focus on expanding the company's fee development and build-to-suit efforts. Previously, Rich served as vice president of development for Archon Group in Dallas.

National Roofing Contractors Association James McAdam, president of New Haven, Conn.-based F.J. Dahill Co. Inc., was elected president of the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) for the 1999-2000 term. The election took place at the organization's 112th Annual Convention and Exhibit in Phoenix. In addition, John F. Miller, CEO of San Francisco-based Western Roofing Service, has been elected senior vice president of the NRCA. Both men, who have been active in the association during the past decade, begin their one-year terms of office on June 1. Additionally, three new vice presidents were elected to two-year terms with the NRCA: David Bruce Fryer, of Fryer Roofing Co. Inc., Fresno, Calif.; Don McCrory, of Kiker Corp., Mobile, Ala.; and Don Springer, of Springer-Peterson, Lakeland, Fla.

Koll Development Co. Clark R. Wardle has been appointed vice president of retail for Koll Development Co.'s Western division based in Newport Beach, Calif. His responsibilities include overseeing the development of Koll's retail, office and industrial projects across the Western United States. Prior to joining Koll, Wardle served as vice president of development at Palm Desert, Calif.-based R.D. Hubbard Enterprises Inc., where he oversaw the planning, development and construction of several of the company's real estate assets.

CB Richard Ellis Tanya Bell has been promoted to managing director of brokerage services for Minnesota in the Minneapolis office of Los Angeles-based CB Richard Ellis. Bell joined the company in 1983 and has held positions as sales associate, sales consultant, managing director of St. Paul and sales manager/assistant vice president.

Grubb & Ellis Co. Brian D. Parker has been promoted to executive vice president of Northbrook, Ill.-based Grubb & Ellis Co. Parker will assume responsibility for reengineering company initiatives with the goal of increasing Grubb & Ellis' productivity and operating margin. In addition, he will chair the operating committee, which reviews and approves all major operational decisions of the company. Prior to joining Grubb & Ellis as senior vice president and CFO in 1996, Parker served in a similar capacity with The Balcor Co.
