NEW JERSEY—Walters Homes has broken ground on Laurel Oaks, a new affordable apartment community in Barnegat, N.J. Situated between Barnegat Blvd. and Rose Hill Road, the mid-rise multifamily project will include 94 apartment homes spanning four buildings. The income-restricted housing project is slated to open in the summer of 2013.
The property will include a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, a playground, basketball court, clubhouse with a fitness center, on-site parking and 24-hour, on-site management and maintenance. Each unit will have Energy Star energy-efficient appliances, including washer/dryer and dishwasher.
Walters Home is developing the project to be environmentally friendly and the property will be built using green building methods and materials. The entire project is designed to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and Energy Star certification.
Located in southern Ocean County, the community will be pedestrian friendly and situated near shopping and dining. Public transportation is available via Ocean Ride. In addition, the Garden State Parkway and Route 9 corridor pass through the township and provide access to Route 72.
