NEW JERSEY—On Monday, September 24, Newark Collegiate Academy, a new charter school in Newark, opened its doors. The 63,855-sq.-ft. school is located at 18-36 Norfolk Street and is expected to educate approximately 600 public school students in grades 9 through 12 each year.
The school will be operated by The Friends of TEAM Academy Charter Schools. TEAM Schools is a growing network of KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) schools in Newark, providing students with a college-prep education. Hollister Construction Services served as project manager of the project.
“Our client appreciated Hollister’s ability to get this remarkable school completed ahead of schedule and under budget,” said Christopher A. Johnson, chief executive officer of Hollister. “By coming in as construction managers, we could provide value engineering based on our in-depth knowledge, and experience in the education market. Hollister’s pre-construction and planning consultation resulted in dramatic cost and time savings, while maintaining the school’s functional and aesthetic parameters.”
