NCR ships more than 1,000 self-checkout systems

Dayton, Ohio – Locally based NCR Corp. recently shipped more than 1,000 self-checkout systems to retailers, allowing shoppers to scan, bag and pay for their own items. Retailers already using the NCR self-checkout units include Albertson's, Wakefern, K-VA-T Food City and Kmart.

An NCR-sponsored study conducted in late 2000 revealed that 33 percent of respondents indicated they would be more likely to frequent a store that offered self-checkout terminals, and one in four customers already use it regularly. In addition, customer usage has been reported as high as 37 percent of in-store transactions.
