Retailers flock to planned 1 million sq. ft. center

Retailers are flocking to a planned 1 million sq. ft. retail project in Upland, Calif. According to Colonies Crossroads Inc., developer of the project of the same name, Target, Kohl’s Department Store and Chick’s Sporting Goods have all signed letters of intent to open stories at the site — and more agreements will be announced soon, officials say.

The $200 million upscale specialty center, slated for completion in October 2003, is located at the intersection of the Foothill Freeway extension and Campus Avenue. A joint venture between Pacific Development Group of Newport Beach and Colonies Crossroads Inc. of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., is developing the project, which will include restaurants and an entertainment complex.

"Our tenant interest is extremely strong, and we will soon be announcing more tenant commitments that will include a national linens and domestics store and a pet supply store," said Bob Lewis, partner of Pacific Development Group.

Colonies Crossroads will be developed as part of The Colonies at San Antonio, a 434-acre community with 1,100 single-family homes, 60 acres of open space and 1.1 million sq. ft. of promotional and specialty retailers.
