Taking on suburban sprawl

DALLAS — As suburban sprawl continues to lengthen commutes to work, some companies are fighting back with new urbanism. That includes WorkPlaceUSA, which has formed a new company, WorkPlace Urban Solutions, to focus on creating urban environments with housing, retail, office and transit.

The idea is to emphasize neighborhoods where people can walk to work or to local stores. This company will design and develop properties and whenever possible incorporate adaptive re-use. WorkPlace Urban Solutions will also provide professional consulting services for new urbanism projects.

Urban development expert Art Lomenick has been named president of WorkPlace Urban Solutions. He serves on the Board of Directors for The Congress for the New Urbanism, and he is an authority on neo-traditional planning, development and architecture. He has been instrumental in enhancing and rebuilding city neighborhoods throughout the United States.
