Forest City Brings Virtual Shopping to Malls

Shoppers at three California malls will get a chance to try out a full-motion, 3D virtual dressing room in September.

The software by FaceCake Marketing Technologies is called Swivel, and allows mall shoppers to try out a vast inventory of clothing and accessories from multiple stores.

Swivel enables shoppers to virtually see themselves in countless choices of clothing and accessories and turn to view the look from all angles on a large flat-screen monitor.

Shoppers can even choose from multiple background scenes, and get a realistic 3D view of how their new outfit would look in different settings. Then can then share photos of their Swivel styles via Facebook, Twitter or e-mail.

Forest City Commercial Management is working with FaceCake to bring the system to three of its properties for one weekend each on the following dates:

• South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach on Sept. 2-4
• Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga on Sept. 9-10
• Promenade Temecula in Temecula on Sept. 16-18

The Swivel preview will feature two exclusive Nikolaki red carpet gowns by designer Nick Verreos for guests to try on virtually.

“We are always looking for ways to integrate technology into the bricks-and-mortar retail shopping experience,” says Stephanie Shriver-Engdahl, director of advertising at Cleveland-band Forest City Enterprises.

“We’re bringing Swivel to our properties as an introduction to a new channel for shoppers and retailers to stay connected, in person as well as online, between in-store visits.”

The technology can push clothing and accessories from multiple stores within the property to complement various looks. “Swiveling between outfits happens at lightning speed, enabling the visualization of many more looks,” says FaceCake founder and CEO Linda Smith.

“And by automatically promoting related items and accessories for try-on, it’s never been easier to see what a complete outfit looks like without having to search department by department, or from store to store,” adds Smith.
