Philadelphia Sustainability Group Hosts Local to National Symposia

More than 800 business leaders, public officials, students and community activists gathered in Philadelphia on March 12 for the third annual PA/NJ Sustainability Symposium, presented by the Delaware Valley Green Building Council (DVGBC) and hosted by Temple University. NREI is pleased to present a video of the conference here.

The event was also one in a series of “Host City” events for the DVGBC, which is preparing for more than 30,000 people to descend on Philadelphia in November for the U.S. Green Building Council’s Greenbuild International Conference & Expo.

This year’s PA/NJ Sustainability Symposium focused on national trends in sustainable business practices, planning, funding and education, while highlighting regional next-generation technological advances, programs and policies that relate to sustainability. Close to 100 organizations—as diverse as Xerox and the Philadelphia Eagles, Cloud Institute, Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, Philadelphia Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, Vetri Foundation and North Penn School District offered insights.

“The depth and breadth of the PA/NJ Sustainability Symposium’s speakers and attendees was a great indicator of the strength of our sustainability and green building community here.  We’re excited to show the region off to a national and international audience when Greenbuild arrives,” says DVGBC Executive Director Janet Milkman.  “We’ve been working for more than a decade to promote green building and sustainable communities, and it’s gratifying to see not only how much progress we’ve made from an environmental standpoint, but how much stronger it’s made our region’s economy.”
