ka architecture

Creating an exceptional shopping experience for visitors is one of the most important goals when designing and developing retail spaces. At ka architecture, a national, award-winning architectural design firm, we recognize that people's perceptions of what this experience should be are different. Therefore, our project teams work to meet the varying needs and desires of the ultimate end-user. Design affects our experiences which, when combined, shape our lives. In a strong effort to provide visitors with memorable and enduring experiences, our clients appreciate the innovative solutions and level of attention we bring to our projects. In addition to understanding the influences of good design, we also realize that cultural and environmental considerations play an enormous role in creating a truly successful project — one that becomes an integral part of the community it serves, resulting in “the architecture of life.”

The new Westfield San Francisco Centre is as unique as the city's cable cars, bridges, and dramatic landscape. The 1.5-million-square foot project by partners, Forest City Commercial Group and the Westfield Group opens in September 2006. The mixed-use development incorporates the century-old façade of the former Emporium department store and its signature 102-foot-wide steel and glass dome. Complete with Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, office space, Century Theatres and over 170 specialty shops, Westfield San Francisco Centre will be a destination of distinction in the heart of the city. As executive architect, ka architecture leads a team that includes RTKL Associates Inc., the design architect for the retail, entertainment and office portions of the project, and Kohn Pederson Fox Associates, which is the design architect for the contemporary Mission Street façade of Bloomingdale's.

In the Midwest, ka architecture is working with Forest City Enterprises and Redmond Schwartz Mark Design, the concept building designer, in preparing phase II of a multi-phased project called The Promenade Bolingbrook in Bolingbrook, Ill. Situated west of Chicago, the lifestyle center is a thoughtful combination of retail and office space that creates a sense of place for those who visit the project.
