Major Tenant Happenings

Fairfax, Va. - Demolition of an existing structure at Fair Oaks mall in Fairfax will begin later this year to make way for a Macy's department store, scheduled to open in summer 2000. The three-level, 215,000 sq. ft. new anchor will join Lord & Taylor, Sears, Hecht's and JCPenney at the 1.38 million sq. ft. center, which is owned by Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based Taubman Centers Inc. Hecht's and JCPenney also have plans in the works to expand their stores, with scheduled completions in 2000.

Bellingham, Mass. - Linens 'n Things recently opened a 37,500 sq. ft. superstore at Charles River Center in Bellingham. Other tenants expected to open by year's end are Nature's Heartland, Old Navy, Learning Express, Newbury Comics, Footlocker and Chili's. Charles River Center, anchored by Hoyt's Cinema, is a 250,000 sq. ft. development of W/S Development Associates LLC, which is affiliated with Chestnut Hill, Mass.-based S.R. Weiner and Associates Inc.

Norcross, Ga. - Norcross, Ga.-based Uptons recently opened stores in two Florida markets and one Georgia market. In Florida, the company opened a 51,000 sq. ft. store at The Terraces at Florida Mall in Orlando and a 75,000 sq. ft. unit at West Boca Square in Boca Raton. In Snellville, Ga., Uptons joined Presidential Commons Shopping Center with a 65,000 sq. ft. store. The company currently operates 70 stores in seven states throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.
