Paseo Colorado The premier address for toning up and taking time out

Equinox Fitness Clubs

Paseo Colorado residents won't have to go far to meet their fitness and body-care needs. A few steps out their front door and they will be able to work themselves to exhaustion at Equinox Fitness Clubs, then head to Amadeus Day Spa to recover.

Though they are decidedly nonstandard anchor tenants, TrizecHahn regards the two businesses as primary components of Paseo Colorado because they fit so well with the effort to make the project a total community, not just a retail center juxtaposed with an apartment complex.

Described by Fitness magazine as the nation's “most cutting-edge gym” and by the New York Times as “a temple of well-being,” Equinox will open its first branch outside New York at Paseo Colorado. The 26,000-sq.-ft. facility will offer state-of-the-art fitness and training equipment as well as first-class group fitness programming and luxury amenities, including massage services, child care, a juice bar and exercise apparel shop.

Members of the admittedly high-end club will have use of a full line of cardiovascular machines and a wide range of top-quality strength-training apparatus. They will also have access to yoga, Pilates, spinning and kickboxing classes as well as individualized personal training sessions and nutrition counseling.

Equinox prides itself on its drive for excellence, a drive that appears so strong members at times may curse themselves for having signed up. Though once they see the results, they no doubt will be glad they followed in the footsteps of the “models, rock stars, CEOs, Internet gurus and finance wizards” the company lists as typical clients of its 11 New York clubs.

Amadeus Day Spa

Members will feel even better if they alternate sessions at Equinox with visits to Amadeus, which Amadeus president Joseph Wong says is designed to make customers feel as if they are “coming home” to the best features of the world's top spas. Of course, with such services as Hot Rock Purification, Rainforest Massage, Oxygen Facials and a Pumpkin Peel for your feet, it is a long way from a typical home.

Selected as one of the best spas in California by Self magazine and recently featured in In-Style magazine, Amadeus offers much more than the typical spa experience, featuring a full range of nail and hair care in addition to the above body treatments. To top it off, the 6,100-sq.-ft. facility will also have a retail section at the front featuring international skin, body and hair care products and exclusive professional lines.

The new operation is the locally based company's fourth, reports Wong. In addition to another operation in Pasadena and one in Newport Beach, Calif., Amadeus also operates the massage center at the new Disney Grand California Hotel in Disney's recently created California Adventure. The center has been so successful that Disney is reviewing expansion into a full service day spa.

While Paseo Colorado residents have easiest access to Equinox and Amadeus, both businesses will cater to the entire city. Wong and Equinox CEO Harvey Spevak say their businesses are ideally suited to the wider Pasadena community, which the latter describes as “discerning consumers who demand the best in quality and service.”
