GBT Realty Corp. broke ground for the Crossings of Spring Hill, a 500,000-square-foot regional shopping center in Spring Hill, Tenn. The Crossings will be the first major shopping center in the city. The $60 million project is scheduled to open in March of 2008.

U.S. Capital Holdings Group, a private equity investor owned by Gang Lu, a Chinese steel manufacturer, submitted approval plans for 321 North, a mixed-use development at the former Fashion Mall property in Plantation, Fla. The $350 million project is scheduled to include approximately 550,000 square feet of retail, 400,000 square feet of class A office space and up to 600 residential units. Construction is expected to commence within the next 12 months.

Menin Development Companies, Inc. hired Glen Rosenberg, Esq. as vice president and general counsel. In his new position, Rosenberg will manage litigation, transactional work and leasing negotiations for Menin. He previously served as counsel and vice president of tenant relations for New Plan Excel Realty Trust, Inc.

ECHO Real Estate Services Company and Cornerstone Real Estate Advisors broke ground on the Grove at Wesley Chapel, a retail, restaurant and entertainment complex in Pasco County, Fla. The first phase of the project will include more than 327,666 square feet of space and is scheduled to open this fall. The second phase, encompassing 207,590 square feet, will commence this summer and phase three, encompassing 176,174 square feet, will begin in the third quarter of 2007.

Mattiace Properties, Inc. and H.C. Bailey Companies began construction on the Renaissance at Colony Park, a 500,000-square-foot open-air lifestyle center in Ridgeland, Miss. Renaissance at Colony Park is scheduled to open in March 2008.

McWhinney will develop a 1-million-square-foot, LEED-certified mixed-use center in Loveland, Colo. The project, called the Grand Station at Centerra, will feature 480,000 square feet of retail and restaurants, 145,000 square feet of class A office space, 100,000 square feet of medical space, 160 residences and more than 400 hotel rooms. It is scheduled to open in the fall of 2009.

The Sembler Company appointed Greg Sembler as CEO, effective Jul. 1, 2008. Sembler currently serves as vice chairman of the board. In addition, Ron Wheeler will assume the responsibilities of a COO, a new position at the company. He now serves as vice president of investments.

KKE Architects, Inc. completed design services for Jess Ranch Marketplace Phase II and will commence design and construction drawings for Phase III of the Apple Valley, Calif.-based project. Phase III is scheduled to break ground later this year. When completed, Jess Ranch Marketplace, developed by Malcolm Riley & Associates, will contain 700,000 square feet of retail space.

Developers Diversified Realty appointed David Oakes as executive vice president of finance and chief investment officer, effective Apr. 16. Oakes currently serves as senior vice president and portfolio manager with Cohen & Steers Capital Management.
