Panattoni Development Company, LLC broke ground for the Piemonte at the Ontario Center, a $900-million, 1-million-square-foot mixed-use center in Ontario, Calif. When completed, the Piemonte at the Ontario Center will contain 500,000 square feet of retail, 268,000 square feet of office space, a 256-room hotel, 800 luxury condominiums and an 11,000-seat sports and entertainment arena. Completion is scheduled for 2009.

Macerich appointed Tony Grossi as its new executive vice president and chief operating officer, effective Jan. 8, 2007. Grossi previously served as executive vice president of operations with Toronto-based Cadillac Fairview.

W/S Development Associates appointed Mark Roberts as senior vice president of leasing. Roberts previously served as senior vice president of real estate with Gap Inc.

CBL & Associates Properties, Inc. purchased 147 acres of land for the development of Pearland Town Center, a 1.2-million-square-foot mixed-use center in Houston, Texas. When completed, Pearland Town Center will contain a 710,000-square-foot open-air lifestyle center, a Courtyard by Marriott hotel, multi-family residential homes and class A office space. The opening is planned for the fall of 2008.

Thomas J. Klutznick Company and co-developer Kenneth A. Himmel, of Related Urban, broke ground for CityNorth, a 5.5-million-square-foot mixed-use project in Phoenix, Ariz. The project's first phase will include 1 million square feet of space.
