Damaging Storms Draw Attention to Flooding Concerns in Miami's Business District

Flooding from Hurricane Harvey is a reminder Miami's CBD is vulnerable.

The catastrophic flooding that Houston and east Texas are experiencing from Tropical Storm Harvey is a reminder that South Florida, particularly its largest business district, has frequent problems with storm water flooding. On Aug. 1, a few hours of heavy rain from the edges of Tropical Depression Emily caused substantial flooding in downtown Miami, especially in the Brickell financial district. The lower level of Brickell City Centre’s two-story underground garage was flooded.
