Jones Lang LaSalle, Genesis Partners to Help Complete Charles Pointe Project in West Virginia

Jones Lang LaSalle entered into an alliance with Genesis Partners to help complete the development of Charles Pointe, a $1.4 billion, 1,700-acre master-planned community in West Virginia. The project is the result of a public/private partnership.

Currently, Charles Pointe already contains more than 250,000 sq. ft. of commercial space, two hotels, a conference center, more than 200 residential units, recreational and educational facilities and community parks.

Jones Lang LaSalle and Genesis Partners will jointly serve as project development manager and lead brokerage team for the completion of work at Charles Pointe. The project will eventually include recreational, hospitality, retail, commercial and residential uses, with a 40-acre resort serving as its centerpiece. There will be a conference/civic center complex, a health/wellness facility, multiple sports venues, a restaurant row, several shopping centers and a community center, among other components.

“It’s not often you see such a unique and diverse mix of industries, from high tech to oil and gas, from health care to commercial and retail, all in one region,” said Michael Elliott, Jones Lang LaSalle’s lead leasing agent for Charles Pointe, in a statement. “With the dynamic growth of the area, coupled with the tremendous location and infrastructure of the site, we are already seeing strong interest from several retail and commercial tenants.”

Taubman, Benderson Break Ground on Enclosed Mall in Florida

Taubman Centers Inc. and Benderson Development Co. broke ground for The Mall at University Town Center, a $315 million, 880,000-sq.-ft. two-level enclosed mall in Sarasota, Fla. Saks Fifth Avenue, Dillard’s and Macy’s will anchor the property.

“Retailer response to The Mall at University Town Center has been tremendous,” said Taubman COO William Taubman in a statement. “We will feature many distinctive retailers not found anywhere else in the local market. The shopping center will offer a distinctive collection of upscale fashion and lifestyle retailers, as well as sit-down restaurants.”

CBRE to Serve as Leasing Agent for Six Starwood-Owned Malls

Starwood Capital appointed CBRE Inc. as leasing agent for six malls located in California, Florida, Illinois, Nebraska and Ohio.

The properties include The Solano Mall in Fairfield, Calif.; Westland Mall in Miami; Chicago Ridge Mall and Louis Joliet Mall in Chicago; The Gateway Mall in Lincoln, Neb. and Southpark Mall in Cleveland.

Spencer Levy and Todd Caruso will lead this assignment on behalf of CBRE. The leasing team will include Chris Campbell, Brian Mirkovich, Paco Diaz, Danny Diaz, Marcy Wood, Marisa Roussel, Dennis Hoth, Keith Hamulak and Angelo Catalano.

CBL Opens Community Center in North Carolina

CBL & Associates Properties Inc. opened Waynesville Commons, a 127,500-sq.-ft. community center in Waynesville, N.C.

The center is 100 percent leased. Belk, Michaels and PetSmart anchor the property. Other tenants include US Cellular and Rack Room Shoes.

In an unrelated announcement, CBL hired Sally Cooney as regional director of leasing. In her new position, Cooney will oversee the Cincinnati regional leasing team. She has more than 25 years of experience in mall leasing. Prior to joining CBL, she served as regional vice president with General Growth Properties.

Spanish Developer to Build Mixed-Use Property in Miami

Espacio USA will develop a mixed-use project at 1400 Biscayne Blvd. in Miami. The project will contain a 12-story, 103,000-sq.-ft. class-A office building and a 55-story luxury condominium tower with street level retail. The office building will be designed to achieve LEED Gold certification.

Construction on the development will begin in early 2013, with completion scheduled for 2018. Pei Cobb Freed & Partners will serve as the architects on the project.

KeyPoint Partners Picked to Manage Woburn Mall

Multi-Employer Property Trust and Bentall Kennedy appointed KeyPoint Partners LLC as the property management and leasing agent for Woburn Mall in Woburn, Mass. The mall contains 276,000 sq. ft. of space and is currently approximately 90 percent leased. Tenants include TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, Sports Authority, DSW and CVS Pharmacy.

Don Mace and David Hough will handle this assignment on behalf of KeyPoint Partners. They will be assisted by Peter Carbone, of Novaya Ventures.

 

Simon Property Group appointed Katz & Associates as the leasing agent for Royal Eagle Plaza, a 192,000-sq.-ft. shopping center in Coral Springs, Fla.

Sports Authority anchors the center. Royal Eagle Plaza is currently undergoing a renovation, which will include façade improvements, new paint and improved signage.

More Retailers Sign up With Brixmor

Wal-Mart opened a 160,908-sq.-ft. supercenter at Brixmor Property Group’s Liberty Plaza in Randallstown, Md.

Conn’s Appliances signed an 11,840-sq.-ft. expansion lease with Brixmor at Northshore West in East Houston, Texas. The deal brings Conn’s space at the property to 31,340 sq. ft.

Conn’s also signed a 50,000-sq.-ft. lease at Brixmor’s Marketplace in Tulsa, Okla.

Russell Janicek and Matt Keener, of CBRE, represented Conn’s in the Texas deal, while Ben Ganzkow represented it in the Oklahoma deal.

Whole Foods to Open Two New Stores in New York City

Whole Foods Market signed a long-term lease with Milstein Properties for a 38,000-sq.-ft. store at 1551 Third Avenue in New York City.

The grocery will occupy the first two floors and the lower level of the building. It plans to open its new location in early 2014.

Gary Atlerman, of RKF, represented the landlord in the transaction. Chase Welles and Jacqueline Klinger, of SCG Retail, represented the tenant.

In addition, Whole Foods signed a lease with Wharton Properties for a 39,000-sq.-ft. store at 100 West 25th Street in New York. That location is scheduled to open in 2015. SCG represented the retailer in that transaction as well.

Other Notable News

Nordstrom Inc. signed a lease with Kimco Realty Corp. for a 32,000-sq.-ft. Nordstrom Rack store at Manhasset Center in Manhasset, N.Y. The retailer will take over a former Filene’s Basement space. It plans to open in the spring of 2013.

Arhaus Furniture signed a lease for a 15,000-sq.-ft. store at The Galleria in Edina, Minn.

Dollar General signed a 10-year lease with One Thirty Co. for a 10,236-sq.-ft. store at 840 Market St. in Lemoyne, Pa. Chad Stine, Brad Rohrbaugh and Adam Hagerman, of Bennett Williams, represented the tenant in the transaction.

Crossroads Cos. LLC signed three new retailers at Crossroads at Somerset in Franklin Township, N.J. The new tenants include Integrated Health, La Vida Massage and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. The deals bring Phase II of the center to 100 percent occupancy.

Greenberg Gibbons appointed Tracey Holehan as vice president of leasing. Prior to joining Greenberg Gibbons, Holehan served as senior associate and team leader with CBRE’s Baltomore tenant representation services group.
